Kempegowda International Airport (BLR), located in Devanahalli about 35 km north of Bengaluru’s city center, is a key aviation gateway in South India. In the fiscal year 2024–25, BLR handled over 41.88 million passengers, including 36.05 million domestic and 5.83 million international travelers.
The airport operates two terminals: Terminal 1 for domestic flights and Terminal 2, which commenced international operations in September 2023. Terminal 2 spans 255,000 square meters and is designed as a “terminal in a garden,” reflecting Bengaluru’s green identity.
BLR also plays a significant role in air cargo, handling over 500,000 metric tonnes annually. It manages 13% of India’s total air cargo and more than 40% of South India’s cargo volume.
The airport offers direct connections to five continents and is accessible via NH 44 and a six-lane expressway. A metro line is currently under construction to further improve connectivity. Its continued expansion is driving major development across North Bengaluru in both residential and commercial sectors.
Thanisandra Road, a prominent residential and commercial corridor in North Bengaluru, is approximately 23 to 25 kilometers from Kempegowda International Airport. The driving time between the two locations is typically around 24 to 35 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.
